Macro Flower Photography Tip #12 – Look for a flower in the foreground that can be captured with a colorful background.

When you have the situation described above, shoot the image using a range of your lens’ largest aperture openings (say f/1.2 – f/4.5) to achieve a colorful blurred background (referred to as bokeh). By using a range of f-stops you will be able to select the image with the best combination of detail in the foreground and blur in the background.

Below is an example of a lobularia that I captured at the trial garden using this technique.
