I captured this Gazania back in August of 2009 using my first $500 digital SLR.  It was an Olympus E-500, outfitted with an 8 Megapixel Sensor.  As you can see, this image demonstrates that spending $2,000 – $4,000 for a camera body with a 30+ megapixel sensor is not required to get a good macro flower photo.
